Ouch

Writer: Lauren BakerLauren Baker

Autism is (and I'm not talking metaphorically!) B has a fractured elbow, she fell over in the sensory room at school which is like falling over in a giant marshmallow so goodness knows how she did it. School were concerned she bumped her face and might have hurt her wrist but after being checked over by a first aider and getting cuddles she got on with her day. She had been home sometime when I realised she wasn't using her let arm and tried to investigate. Fingers wiggling? Check! Wrist mobile? Check! Elbow bending? Not keen would be an understatement but she was a lot happier than when L had either of his pulled elbows (mild dislocation in children.) I wasn't too worried and got her an emergency appointment at the doctors who has popped L's arm back in in the past. She wasn't happy so suggested a trip to A&E. I could have cried for myself as much as B, hours and hours of waiting! I couldn't have been more wrong, we were in, registered, directed to children's A&E, sent to X-ray, back again and plastered up in just over an hour! Our local hospital is Good Hope and is well known to locals as No Hope however that was so wrong!

Since the plaster job B hasn't even really acknowledged her cast and is still running and jumping around. She had no pain killers and to be honest seem perfectly fine. The high pain threshold in this instance was a blessing although it's worrying hat a serious injury can be missed for so long because she "seems perfectly fine."

A letter from the past

I wrote this letter in 2015 after months living above the worst neighbours I've experienced (and we've had a lot.) I still can't believe...
